Our key take-aways from ICOE OEE 2026

At ICOE-OEE 2026, the Interreg NWE SHINES project took part in discussions shaping the future of tidal energy. Between sharing experiences, industry outlooks, and strengthening European collaborations, this edition highlighted the sector’s push towards larger-scale deployments.

An event that once again demonstrated the strong momentum of the ocean energy sector and, above all, highlighted a real shift towards industrial deployment.

One of the highlights of this year’s edition was the traditional Tidal Tech Showcase Session, moderated by Marlene Kiersnowski. The session closely reflected the ambitions of the Interreg NWE SHINES project, for which the Fondation OPEN-C is the lead partner.

As highlighted in the opening remarks, showcasing real projects is essential to accelerate the development of the tidal energy sector. And the message was clear : many projects have now moved beyond demonstration and are entering a phase of industrialisation and scale-up.

The speakers, including our partner Patrick Cronin (ORPC), provided concrete examples of this progress and shared valuable insights from their ongoing developments.

The event also marked a first for SHINES alongside Hydroquest, the project's newest partner. We were delighted to continue the discussions during a dinner bringing together our tidal technology developers Hydroquest, ORPC, and SeaQurrent, along with our associated partner Ocean Energy Europe (OEE). It was a valuable opportunity to strengthen partnerships, exchange experiences, and explore the next steps together as the sector moves towards commercial maturity.

A big thank you to everyone for the inspiring discussions and continued commitment. We remain fully dedicated to supporting the scale-up and industrial deployment of tidal energy technologies.
